When Sloop first hit a poetry open-mic stage simply to meet other writer/artist folks, he had no idea he’d eventually become an actual actor. But in the role of Elliot Mess in D.O.A. Productions’ “Dinner with the Mafia,” he summons the ghosts of Peter Sellars, Laurel & Hardy and… Well, admittedly a bit of Moe Howard. And DwtM is the Shakespeare of dinner theater --the Best Kept Secret in Chicago Theater. Oh, you get a meal--perhaps the best Italian food on the planet--full three courses. The ridiculously talented D.O.A. players bring you a tale of North Side vs. South Side, Cubs vs. White Sox, thin crust vs. deep dish, wannabe bumbling gangsters vs. different wannabe bumbling gangsters, wives vs. mistresses… You get the idea. And YOU are part of the show, too--with a mix of killer script and improv, so that no two shows are ever exactly the same. When the ultimate crime occurs, a whodunit breaks-out--and federal agent Elliot Mess comes on to solve it, in between, of course, more bumbling…
